Ted Huddleston

BAXTER CHAPEL-Milton Theodore "Ted" Huddleston, a devoted family man, dedicated community member, and respected professional, passed away  on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the age of 96. Born on January 26, 1930, in the Wolf Creek community in DeKalb County, Tennessee, Ted lived a life marked by hard work, love for his family, and a profound commitment to his community.

A 1948 graduate of Baxter Seminary, Ted went on to build a distinguished career in quality control at the Ford Glass Plant in Nashville, Tennessee, where he served with dedication for 31 years. His professional contributions reflected a steadfast commitment to excellence and reliability, qualities that defined his approach to life and work. He served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher at Buffalo Valley Presbyterian Church.

Beyond his career, Ted was a man deeply connected to the land and the rhythms of rural life. Upon retirement, he embraced farming, gardening, and cattle-raising, pursuits that brought him joy and fulfillment. His involvement extended into community service as an active member and board participant at the Buffalo Valley Community Center, where his leadership and kindness left a lasting impact.

Ted and his late wife, Carolyn Shanks Huddleston, whom he lovingly shared 71 years of marriage before her passing on March 19, 2020, endured the profound loss of their son, Bruce, in 1977. In response to this deep grief, they established Smellage Memory Gardens adjacent to Smellage Cemetery, dedicating countless hours alongside their family to its upkeep and preservation. This lasting tribute stands as a testament to their love and resilience.

He is survived by four devoted sons: David (Kay) Huddleston of Brentwood, Tennessee; Donnie (Peggy) Huddleston of Baxter, Tennessee; Gary Huddleston of Silver Point, Tennessee; and Michael (Lisa) Huddleston of Cookeville, Tennessee. Ted also leaves behind a cherished lineage of grandchildren: Dr. Leslie (Stephen) Franklin, John Huddleston, Jack Huddleston, Jennifer (Marty) Sauvie, Adam (Myiesha) Huddleston, and Brian (Becky) Huddleston. His great-grandchildren Kate, Heidi, Carolyn Rose, Aubrey, Mya, Joey, Austin, Kaylee, and Nate, along with several great-great-grandchildren carry forward his legacy, and special caregivers, Helen Burgess and Belinda Crabtree.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Whitson and Irene Jones Huddleston; his beloved wife Carolyn; his son Bruce; brothers Ray and Carl Huddleston; sister Jodie Wagner; and grandson Blake Huddleston.

Throughout his life, Ted was known not only for his steadfast character and dedication but also for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. His memory will remain a guiding light for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life Service is being planned and the date and time will be announced later.

Ted's life story is one of enduring strength, humility, and love. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
