Tommie King

Tommie Janell King, age 82 of Cookeille, was called to her heavenly home on May 3, 2023. Born March 13, 1941, in Putnam County, TN, Tommie lived a life steeped in love, faith, and service to others. She passed away peacefully at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.


Tommie was the epitome of a loving mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Lilith King; her son, Kevin King; her daughter and son-in-law, Latonya and Gary Mott; her cherished granddaughters, Madison King and Brittany Mott; and her dear nephews, Terry Fox and Casey (Andrea) Fox.


She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Thomas Terry Roberson and Fannie Belle Johnson Roberson; faithful husband, Larry Wayne King; and siblings, Jimmie Roberson and Shirley Fox.


Throughout her life, Tommie dedicated herself to the care and well-being of others, serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Plateau Mental Health for over 30 years. Tommie later served the Putnam County School System, where her gentle spirit and kind heart touched the lives of countless students and faculty members.


Tommie's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church since 1966. Her unwavering commitment to her church was evident in her active participation with the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) for over 50 years. Tommie's faith-filled spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her dedication to the Lord's work was truly a testament to her love for the Creator.


She loved to travel and delighted in exploring new places with friends and family. Tommie's love for shopping was legendary, and she took great joy in finding treasures. Her appreciation for gospel music was evident in her love for singing praises to the Lord. Tommie's loving, faith-filled, and friendly nature endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.


Funeral services with Nurses Honors will be at 11 a.m. Saturday May 6 at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Mark Gaw will officiate. Interment will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery.


Her family will welcome friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
