COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Treva Mae Burton, age 92 will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Algood City Cemetery. Visitation will immediately follow the service at the cemetery.

Treva, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on June 14, 1933, in Putnam County, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Raised in a nurturing home, Treva graduated from Cookeville Central High School in 1951. Her professional career was defined by her dedicated service as a human resource manager at JCPenney in Cookeville, where she built lasting relationships with her coworkers and clients throughout her years of employment, continuing to inspire warmth and kindness until her retirement.

A former member of Willow Ave Church of Christ, Treva later found her spiritual home at Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church alongside her late husband, Doyle Stephen Burton. Treva’s deep faith guided her actions, reflected in her unwavering commitment to serving others. In the ministry's early years, she generously volunteered at Happy Haven Children's Homes, offering her compassionate presence on weekends, where she gave relief to the full-time house parents. Her dedication to children was a significant part of her life; she loved them deeply and poured love into her grandchildren, often spoiling them with affection and attention.

Treva's passions extended beyond her volunteer work, as she was a talented seamstress who could create anything and everything, from clothing for her children to special items that warmed the hearts of those around her. She was also an excellent cook, known for her mouthwatering dishes that brought family and friends together at the table.

In addition to her nurturing spirit and creative talents, Treva loved the outdoors, finding tranquility and joy in nature. Whether it was a simple stroll in the fresh air or spending time with her loved ones, she truly embraced the beauty of life around her.

Her legacy continues through her daughters, Amy Vaughn, married to Scott Vincent, and Julie Carter, married to Michael. Treva also leaves behind five adoring grandchildren: Amber (Toni) Owens, Zan (Katie) Vaughn, Colt (Madison) Carter, Zachary (Kayla) Carter, and Nicholas (Allison) Carter, along with five great-grandchildren, Addison Oakes, Avery Oakes, Jesse Vaughn, Beau Carter, and Emory Carter. As if this wasn’t enough to brighten the family tree, she has two great-great grandchildren, Ava and Nathan Oakes, ensuring that her love will be felt for generations to come.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle, and her parents, Samuel "Roscoe" Herron and Clara Flatt Herron. Treva Mae Burton's life was a testament to love, grace, and generosity. She will be profoundly missed by her family and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.

Her family wishes to express special thanks to her caregivers and staff at Cedar Hills Senior Living, the staff at Signature Healthcare and to Kelly Tayes for the excellent and loving care extended to Mrs. Treva.
