COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Virginia Ann Sircy, born on March 24, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a remarkable woman, whose vibrant personality and big heart left an indelible mark upon everyone she encountered.
A graduate of Cookeville High School, Virginia dedicated her life to helping others. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in English/Journalism from Tennessee Tech University (TTU), she worked as a reporter for the Lebanon Democrat before going on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Psychology from TTU. From that point forward, Virginia worked for multiple state and state-contract agencies focused on providing social services to children. In this role, she touched the lives of countless children and families, embodying compassion and commitment in every interaction.
It was also at TTU where she would meet and ultimately marry the love of her life, a fellow editor of The Oracle campus newspaper, Ken Sircy.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Virginia would undoubtedly recall the warmth of her spirit. Throughout her extended illnesses, she remained a beacon of positivity; her pleasant demeanor and gentle laughter endeared her to nurses and caretakers alike. With her quick-witted sense of humor and obvious compassion and sincere empathy for others, Virginia was truly fun to be around. Her joy for life was infectious. Her love for children was only matched by her thoughtful nature and her enthusiasm for fun, making her a cherished companion to many.
An active member of Algood United Methodist Church from the age of 15, Virginia embraced her faith with fervor, drawing strength and solace from her community. She served on various committees at the church and was a long-time member of the choir. Before her health declined, Virginia was active in many lively pursuits. She especially enjoyed shopping and seeking out yard sales and auctions with her mom. She loved driving, traveling, going to concerts, playing tennis, and being a member of a local bowling team. She was also fond of baking and made excellent cornbread and bundt cakes.
She was also known for her love of animals, particularly cats, leading her to volunteer tirelessly at the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter. Those who shared her passion found comfort in knowing that her kindness extended to the voiceless creatures she worked to protect. When she lost the ability to walk in 2018, she sorely missed the chance to help take care of the cats at the shelter. So, she followed the shelter’s activities on social media and readily shared any posts related to needs at the shelter, lost pets, etc.
Virginia is survived by her loving mother, Betty Carter Verble; her devoted husband of 40 years, Ken Sircy; her sister, Carol Verble; brothers and sisters in law, Keith and Lisa Sircy, Jon and JJ Blankenship; and many cherished cousins and adored nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Verble.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, December 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Her family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
