BAXTER CHAPEL-Wanda Joyce Ashburn Herald, passed away peacefully at her home in Baxter, Tennessee, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on March 14, 1932, in Silver Point, Tennessee, Wanda’s life was defined by her warmth, generosity, and a steadfast devotion to family and friends.
Wanda was the cherished daughter of Alvin Ashburn and Winnie Jane Palmer Ashburn, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank Kenneth Herald; sister, Nelda (Roy) Hurst; brother, Eugene "Gene" (Ruby) Ashburn; daughter-in-law Jenny Herald; and her grandson, Kevin Herald. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Those who survive Wanda and carry forth her loving legacy include her sons, Donnie Herald of Cookeville, Jeff (Joetta) Herald of Baxter, and Rod (Tim) Howard of Decatur, AL; and her daughter, Carol (Richard) Biniecki of Cookeville. Wanda’s profound influence and guidance also live on in her grandchildren: Alissa (T.J.) Fetcho, Kelly Herald, Kyle (Keelyn) Herald, Kris Herald, Justin Herald, Jason (Jordan) Herald, Betty Herald, and granddaughter-in-law, Andrea Herald. She is also survived by her dear friend and caregiver, Tammi Poteet.
A woman of many interests and boundless energy, Wanda treasured the simple joys of life. She was especially passionate about quilting and gardening, pursuits that allowed her creativity and nurturing spirit to bloom. She found happiness in taking rides through the countryside, enjoying outdoor picnics, and observing the animals that she so loved. Above all, Wanda cherished time spent with her family and friends; she drew immense strength from these relationships and was a constant source of support, encouragement, and affection for those around her.
Wanda’s life was an example of quiet dignity and quiet strength. Her love, kindness, and deep appreciation for nature’s beauty inspired all who knew her. Those privileged to share in her long and meaningful life will remember her fondly and continue to be influenced by her wisdom and enduring optimism.
Family and friends are invited to honor Wanda’s memory at visitation, which will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Baxter Chapel, located at 532 4th Ave South, Baxter, TN. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Palmer Cemetery, 13820 Old Baxter Road, Silver Point, TN 38582.
Pallbearers will be grandkids.
