Wanda Sue Thaxton Scott passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at NHC of Cookeville. Born on July 23, 1940, in Gainesboro, TN, Wanda's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of love and dedication to her loved ones.
Wanda's life was a testament to the power of family and community. She was the beloved matriarch who brought warmth and joy to every gathering. Wanda is survived by her devoted son, Gary Bradford and his wife, Kim; her loving daughters, Sharon Kay Bennett and Crystal Lynn Cumby; her adored seven grandchildren; and her cherished 11 great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her legacy by living out the values she instilled in them. Her vibrant presence will also be missed by a host of cousins who shared in the tapestry of her life.
Before her passing, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Thaxton and Lola Lassiephene Allen Thaxton, and her daughter, Cathy Renee Bradford. Each held a special place in her heart, and their memories were a source of comfort and strength throughout her life.
Wanda's passions extended beyond the home and into the heart of her community. She was a familiar face at Ralph's Donuts, where she served with a smile that could brighten anyone's day. Her commitment to service also shone through in her role as an usher at the Grand Ole Opry, where she welcomed guests with the same warmth she offered her own family.
Those who knew Wanda will remember her as the epitome of a loving individual. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support were the cornerstones upon which her relationships were built. Her influence will live on in the countless lives she touched.
A graveside service to honor the beautiful life of Wanda Sue Thaxton Scott will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, August 13, at Smith Chapel Cemetery. It will be a time for family, friends, and those whose lives were touched by Wanda to gather in remembrance of a life lived with love at its center.
