COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - William Andy Oakley Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on Thursday July 31, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 26, 1952, in Putnam County, Tennessee, and he lived a life rich with purpose and passion.
Andy dedicated his career to being a reliable forklift operator with Whirlpool in Lavergne, TN, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, embracing his love for nature through deer hunting, camping, and fishing. His adventurous spirit and zest for life were evident in every adventure he undertook.
Family was at the heart of Andy's existence. He was a protective and devoted husband to his wife, Betty Jo Oakley, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised their son, William Andy Oakley Jr., (Faith) and daughter, Heather Nicole Oakley (Jordan Cummings), warmly supporting each of them through the joys and challenges of life. Andy found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to his four grandchildren, Caleb Kinnnard, Addison Cummings, Bricyn Oakley, and Chloe Oakley. His puppy dog, Bella held a special place in his heart.
Andy’s personality was multi-faceted; he was known to be outspoken and colorful, often being described as a "junkyard dog" by those who knew him. His protective nature extended to those he loved, proving that family was not just an aspect of his life - it was his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Oakley and Jessie Lee Webb Oakley, who instilled in him the values of hard work, love, and community.
A funeral service honoring Andy will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday August 2 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Richard Farley will officiate. Visitation for friends and family will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Andy will be laid to rest at Bohannon Cemetery.
Andy's legacy of love, dedication, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his warmth, humor, and uncompromising love for his family.
