Maggie Joanna Steele

Funeral service for Mrs. Maggie Joanna Steele, age 80, of Cookeville, will be held on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Justin Grant officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Overton County, TN. Mrs. Steele's family will receive friends Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11:00 am until service time. Mrs. Steele passed away peacefully March 1, 2016 at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville. She was born July 31, 1935 in Overton County, TN to the late Willie and Lola Quarles Carr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Steele; sister, Lucille Grant; three brothers, JD Carr, Jimmy Carr, and Frankie Carr; great-granddaughter, Blakely Nichole Farris; and special traveling friend, Martha Walker. Mrs. Steele was a member of Pistole Baptist Church. She was known for her generosity, always extending love to family and friends by putting others first. She opened her home and heart to many foster children. She enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and loved to travel. Mrs. Steele will be forever loved and missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mark Farris of Cookeville, brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Dimple Carr of Algood; sister, Carol Mahan of Baxter; two grandsons, Patrick Farris (wife Amanda) of Cookeville, Mark Clay Farris (wife Amy) of Lafayette, TN; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Ciera, Adam Farris, and Aniya Wallace. Mrs. Steele's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Bethesda Health Care Center for the excellent care and support she received during her stay there.
